AOL Chat (Oct. 25, 1999)
Here is a transcript of the AOL/Expo Live Chat with Tom Braidwood. (Many humble and abject-type thanks to Amy) Further reports from Chicago will be forthcoming from our lovely and talented (read: loud and persistent) giz and Martha...Right? ;) AOL/Expo Chat (1998)
OnlineHost *** You are in "AOL LIVE". *** (XFilesgest) TB-- I'm not really a producer. The part was offered to me by William Graham, who was directing the episode when the Gunmen first appear. He couldn't find anyone to play Frohike, who he liked, so he asked me to do it. EvuRKleaR (6)ok (XFilesgest) TB-- I said "yes," and the rest is history. Agent642 Q: Tom, are you going to be at the Detroit XFiles Expo? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Not to my knowledge, at this time. Q: What do you think of the trailers they've been showing at the Expo? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- I haven't seen them, and I probably shouldn't comment! Monkychop Q: Do you believe in any of the conspiracies that the LoneGunmen put forth? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Not really, but at times it does give me pause to think. Beyond Sea Q: Did you have any say in Unusual Suspects? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Only to the extent that on set we would discuss with the director our feelings on the scenes and where we felt the characters were coming from. Q: Why do YOU think Mr. X didn't kill you? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Since the episode was set ten years ago, he couldn't really kill us. But more to the point, we served the purpose for Mr. X and I don't think he saw us as much of a threat. Q: What do you think is the BEST part of the Expo? What can you "not miss"?? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- I haven't had a chance to be out on the floor and see everything that's.going on, but from my perspective the enthusiasm and friendliness of the fans is awesome. Elena08 Q: Do you enjoy working for the X-Files? (XFilesgest) TB-- Working on the show in both capacities has been a terrific expereience. It's not to be forgotten. For all the frustration and difficulties in the actual making of the shows, in the end when you look back...you feel proud to be involved. The CVS Q: HEY TOM!!! ARE YOU ANYTHING LIKE FROHICKE? (sic) A: (XFilesgest) TB-- I'm short, I don't shave often, I'm a lousy dresser. I don't know. I guess there is a resemblance! ReagansMu Q: What is it like, playing the character you play? Do people approach you all the time? A: (XFilesgest) TB--I love playing Frohike. I have a lot of fun with it. Believe it or not, the best part is working with the other two guys. I do get recognized, funnily enough, more in the States than in Canada. It's nice because everyone appears to be big fans of the show. Q: I think there is only one episode set in Chicago. Any plans for more. Agent642 Q: Tom, have you ever really messed up one of your lines and had one of those great Blooper moments? A: Regarding Chicago, not that I know of. --Messed up my lines? Oh yeah! More than once. Pendrell Q: Is the Expo coming to England? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Don't know what the overseas plans are for Expo. Q: As we sit here, people are addressing you as Frohike - does that bother you? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- No, even the crew on the show refer to me pretty much as Frohike. F Hammy Q: When is the movie going to come out? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- The movie is being released in mid-June. KelandPet Q: Tom, when the show moves to LA will you continue in your role as the first assistant director? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- No. When the show moves on I'll be staying in Vancouver. Cross-border employment has a number of problems to be considered. Iqueadge Q: What's it like juggling your off camera work with playing Frohike? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- It doesn't seem to be too much of a problem to me....The production has always made it easy to keep both jobs going. Frohike17 Q: Tom...Is there any way you would be able to attend more expos or Question conventions???...with your first AD duties..I know it is hard... A: (XFilesgest) TB-- It wouldn't be a problem, because the last episode for this season will finish shooting in a couple of weeks. And I'll be looking for work. You know of any opportunities? Roseprism Q: Do you ever surf the net to see what people say about the Lone Gunmen? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Oh yeah. I check it out. I visit the Frohike site, the Lone Gunmen Estrogen site, The Fox site and many others. Muldrsbab Q: Tom - is Frohike ever going to get a girlfriend? A: (XFilesgest) TB--I think he pines for Scully. Versare Q: Do you enjoy acting or directing more, for the show that is? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Both facets of my work are pleasurable in different ways. If I had to choose, I suppose acting would be the way to go. Cerebrum1 Q: How was working on the movie different from doing the regular show??? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Not really that much different. It had the same feeling as the show...which I guess makes sense. And it took a little bit longer to shoot. FMulder15 Q: Tom, do believe in the existance of extra terrestrial life? A: (XFilesgest) TB-- Tough question. I've been asked that one a lot. Don't know if I really believe in extra terrestrials....but at the same time, I don't assume that we're the only intelligent life...If we are, we're in trouble! *EXPOLive* -- Thank you Tom for joining us!
